Welcome to the Cuevas Lab at the University of Texas at Austin, School of Nursing!
We are interested how experiences of cognitive problems interact with chronic illnesses, specifically type 2 diabetes, and how this interaction contributes to self-management and health. One particular focus is an exploration of how cognitive changes and health are described by people with type 2 diabetes in the Latinx community. We hope to use this information to improve well-being at home, in clinics, and in communities. In other words, in the Cuevas Lab, we aim to do work that makes a difference in people’s lives.
The Cuevas Lab is directed by Dr. Heather Cuevas, Assistant Professor of Nursing at UT Austin. In the Cuevas Lab, our goals are to:
- Nurture and challenge students and trainees.
- Be respectful, engaging, and meaningful for participants.
- Advance nursing science through a broad research program in diabetes self-management, cognitive function, and Latinx health.
