Welcome to the Cuevas Lab at the University of Texas at Austin!
We are interested how experiences of cognitive problems interact with chronic illnesses, specifically type 2 diabetes, and how this interaction contributes to mental and physical health. One particular focus is an exploration of how cognitive changes and health are described by people with type 2 diabetes in the Latinx community.
The Cuevas Lab is directed by Dr. Heather Cuevas, Assistant Professor of Nursing at UT Austin. In the Cuevas Lab, our goal is to be:
- Nurturing, challenging, and stimulating to students and trainees.
- Respectful, engaging, and meaningful for participants.
- Advance nursing science through a broad research program in diabetes self-management, cognitive function, and Latinx health.
We in the Cuevas Lab value the diversity of our members and research participants. You are welcome in this lab! Read our Diversity Commitment Statement for some of the concrete steps we are taking in the lab to address racism and encourage diversity in the 2021 – 2022 academic year.
